Hemp legalization Farm Bill lands up in Trump’s hand for final approval

Due to the fact that cannabis is considered as a drug, it was banned in the U.S. However, the use of hemp wasn’t entertained by the citizens as they assumed it to be a part of cannabis that generally caused the feeling of high and hence it was banned to cultivate and sell cannabis or cannabis-infused products. Despite hemp belongs to the same cannabis plant family, they are highly different when it comes to their chemical properties. CBD is an extract from hemp which normally has an extremely low amount of THC, another chemical compound which is associated with making the users feel high.

Due to lack of knowledge and information, hemp suffered a ban in the U.S and it was added to the Schedule 1 list of Controlled Substances Act of 1971. Years later, experts have proved CBD hemp oil infused products and medicines to be a lifesaver for many patients suffering from several chronic ailments and are still studying the benefits of CBD hemp oil on the human body in depth. They found out the most effective doses as per an individual’s weight, gender, and other related factors to avoid or minimise potential side effects.

However, the number of votes landed at 369-47 to pass a Farm Bill that included legalizing cannabis plants that had not more than 0.3% THC content in it. The main question arises here is ‘ Is CBD oil legal in Texas?’ The congress cleared out the air that low THC cannabis plants aren’t illicit, nor are CBD and other cannabinoids extracted from industrial hemp.

The newly released Farm Bill is expected to release a nationwide single set of rules for hemp, which is supervised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). All the states are required to submit a single hemp plan to the agency, which will hold the authority to approve or deny them.

American Indian tribes and U.S. territories will be permitted to manage hemp as well something that was omitted from the previous Farm Bill. Several laws are sanctioned by the states for making or granting permission for the establishment of research pertaining to industrial hemp or related relief programs. State institutions of higher education administer the hemp relief programs to consider the process including cultivation, processing, and economics of industrial hemp.

These relief programs might be accessible for certain period of time and may require a timely reporting from members and the state agencies while some states are required to establish regulatory agencies or committees, rules, and goals to supervise the research programs. States might also want a proper synchronization between targeted colleges/universities and the programs while in other states maintaining such coordination is optional. State legislation also has eliminated hemp from the list of controlled substances and removed industrial hemp from the legal definition of marijuana if it is grown within stipulated norms.

Several states facilitate a supporting defense for cannabis possession and cultivation charges under controlled substances law for licensed individuals in order to protect the cultivators.
